Wednesday Afternoon Update: Brownwood Fire Department reported that this morning’s house fire on Bailey Street was started by a smoker which was being used to cook a brisket.
According to BFD Chief Del Albright, it was determined that some embers from the smoker had caught the grass on fire, which spread to the house, burning the back side of the home and spread into the attic.
No one was at home when the fire occurred, explained Albright, “They are all safe, but there was lots of smoke and water damage.”
Albright stated that fires like this are a reminder to be careful and not to have anything combustible near a home. Keep grills and smokers well away from homes and be especially careful during times of dry weather.
