Wayne Wendell Wilson was born on December 6th, 1929 in Roscoe, Texas, to Verna Mae Lambert and Frederick Glover Wilson. He was the 3rd of 14 children. Wayne attended Cisco Junior College, after which he joined the Army and served in the Artillery Division.

In 1951 he joined the Masonic Lodge, and eventually reached the status of Master Mason. In the same year he began working for the El Paso Natural Gas Company, where he continued working for more than 35 years in such locations as Dumas, Tx; Jal , NM ; Midkiff Tx; Goldsmith, Tx; and Crane, Tx.

Wayne married Faye Marie Anderson in February of 1954. They enjoyed 57 years of marriage before she was taken home to be with the Lord on April 4th, 2011. Wayne and Faye had 4 children. Wayne was saved as a young boy, and lived out his faith daily. Wayne touched many people throughout his life. He has been remembered as a husband, father, teacher, friend, faithful servant, leader, and hard worker.

He enjoyed being involved both religiously and socially throughout his life in such organizations as Reagan County School Board in Big Lake, First Baptist Church Midkiff (in all capacities), 32nd Degree Scottish Right and the Texas Baptist Men Camp Builders. Wayne loved to practice the skill of woodworking in his spare time, and extensively throughout his retirement.

After his retirement, he and Faye moved to Brownwood in 1986, where they joined and served at Rocky Creek Baptist Church. He participated in building and remodeling houses, but most loved making crosses, which he would give to people as a way to reach out to them with the love of Jesus. He also enjoyed making wooden toys for all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Upon his death at 84 years of age on January 15th, 2014, Wayne is survived by his children:  Ricky Aaron (Sandy)Wilson and his wife Sheryl, Donald Wayne Wilson and his wife Lori, Brenda Fay Tucker and her husband George, and Janice Rae Morris and her husband Bob; 12 grandchildren and 18 ½ great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind siblings: Edna Faye Harris, Jerry Wilson and his wife Lydia, Herman Wilson and his wife Judy, Jimmy Wilson and his wife Carolyn, Billy Wilson and his wife Jo, Linda Oates and her husband Larry, Sandra Puntney and her husband Michael, Joan Gerhardt and her husband Larry, and Jane McIntire and her husband Marcus.  He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Wayne is preceded in death by his wife Faye, brothers Dean, Max and Jack Wilson and sister Bertha Ann Wilson, daughter in law Diane Wilson, 2 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Wayne Wendell Wilson leaves a legacy which is strong in love, faith and family. He will be dearly loved, remembered and missed as we celebrate his home-going in the days, months and years to come.

Funeral services will be Saturday, January 18, 2014 at 2:00 PM in the Rocky Creek Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Rocky Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 6-8 PM at Heartland Funeral Home in Early. Heartland Funeral Home of Early is in charge of arrangements.
