Brownwood City Council elections were held Saturday cutting 4 candidates down to 2 for the Ward 2 Council seat. Incumbent Eddie Watson and challenger Ed McMillian will face each other in a runoff election on June 13th. Watson took a little over 40% of the vote in Saturday’s election with McMillian getting 27%.
Watson said he was pleased but is ready for the runoff.
“I am very fortunate,” Watson said. “I am just going to have to go out there and go to work.”
Watson has faced McMillian before in a runoff election in 2010 when they ran for an unexpired term, with Watson winning. After that year, Watson was reelected for a full 4 year term.
“I really feel that Ed is a good man, and he will be a good opponent,” Watson said.
Early voting for the runoff election will begin June 1st with an election day of June 13th.
Candidates Larry Mathis, Ward 3 and Jerry DeHay, Ward 5 were unopposed and will be sworn into office on Tuesday.
Less that 400 ballots were cast in the Brownwood City Council election Saturday.
