Northwest Elementary’s Watchdog Kick-Off was well-attended on Tuesday, September 17th.
“We had approximately 85 people present for the program, about 15 to 20 people more than last year,” noted the school’s Assistant Principal, Jerry Jones. “We had several men sign up for the program on the spot and others who picked up the forms to fill out and return later.”
In addition to the Watchdog program, this meeting doubled as a PTO event where families could sign up to join the PTO as well as purchase one of the new Northwest “Superman” t-shirts.
Highlights of the program included viewing a 10 minute video which explains the Watchdog Program, an appearance by McGruff the Crime Dog, and special guests Assistant Police Chief James Fuller and BISD Resource Officer Fred Bastardo. Officer Bastardo also spoke about his support and belief in the Watchdog Program.Mr. Thomas Scull, General Manager of Big Country Ford, furnished the pizza for the party for the second straight year.
“We are so grateful to him for helping our PTO in this way,” stated Jones who also recognized some of the teaching assistants that contributed their time. “A special thanks goes out to Mrs. Curbo and Mrs. Tobias, two of our Teaching Assistants who took care of the children in the Music Room while the program was being presented to the parents.”
