She was born Wanda Jean White on August 28, 1931 in Eastland County to Clarence Dewey White and Mary Pearl Jones White.  Wanda grew up in Coleman where she attended school.  On February 5, 1949, she married Jerry Steffey in Coleman.  He preceded her in death on May 20, 2019.

Wanda worked at Perry Brother’s and also worked on the bottling line at the Coca-Cola plant in Coleman.  Wanda was a great seamstress.  When her daughters were growing up, she made all of their clothes, often dressing them alike.  Family vacations came every summer.  Wanda and Jerry would take their three children to see many different places in Texas and surrounding states. A favorite pastime of Wanda and Jerry’s was attending Bluecat football games.  It did not matter whether the Bluecats were playing at home or on the road, Wanda and Jerry were there rooting for their team.  When their health didn’t allow them to go to Hufford Field or travel to nearby football fields, Wanda and Jerry tuned into KSTA Radio to listen to the Bluecats every Friday night.

Christmas was Wanda’s favorite holiday.  She shopped all year long to make sure everyone got several gifts each.  Under the Christmas Tree looked like Santa’s workshop, with presents and stockings for each child and later for each grandchild and great-grandchild. Wanda was a member of Northside Baptist Church, where she kept the nursery for over 50 years.  Every year at Christmas, Wanda would make more than 100 fruit bags for the Christmas program.  She did this well into her late 70’s. Wanda was also very active in the Women’s Mission Union.

Survivors include three children, Janice Rohacek of Coleman, Jeannie Lusk of Lockhart, Mike Steffey of Austin; one brother, Roger White and wife, Sue, of Coleman; two sisters-in-law, Thelma Barkemeyer of Coleman, Goldie White of Coleman; nine grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, Wanda was preceded in death by her parents and five brothers, Junior White, Jerry Don White, J.C. White, Otha White and Carl White.
