Wanda Joy (Tomlinson) Flanagin, 82, passed away on January 2, 2020 in Frisco, Texas, her family by her side.
Wanda was born on January 17, 1937 in Coleman, Texas to Rosa Lee (Felty) Tomlinson and James Barton Tomlinson. She graduated from Brownwood High School in May 1955 and on September 29, 1956, was united in marriage to James David Flanagin from Brady, Texas. Wanda was a devoted, loving wife and mother who treasured faith and family above all else in this world. She was a gentle and courageous woman who gave of herself selflessly and relentlessly for her family and who, later in life, modeled great courage in the face of incredible challenges to her physical well-being. She demonstrated God’s love in her humble service to others and was unfailing in the unconditional love she showed daily to her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Besides spending time with family, Wanda enjoyed cooking and baking, reading, sewing, drawing, playing word games and assembling puzzles, singing with family and friends and watching movies. She especially loved mysteries and legal thrillers. For most of her life she worked tirelessly as a full-time mother and grandmother, but she also gave of her time by volunteering at local elementary schools and church-sponsored daycare.
She is survived by her husband, James D. Flanagin of Frisco; daughters, Brenda Brittain and husband James of Brownwood and Paula Flanagin of Denton; sons, David Flanagin of McKinney and Lewis Flanagin and wife Juliette of Plano; 12 granchildren: Daniel Brittain, Gadriel Hamilton, Michael Brittain, Tyler Gable, Cassandra Walker, Caitlin Gable, Morghan Flanagin, Brendan Flanagin, Ashlyn Flanagin, Jeremy Flanagin, Joshua Flanagin and Sarah Flanagin; 6 great-grandchildren: Claira Walker, Ian Hamilton, Henry Podeyn, Karleigh Walker, Axel Brittain and Beatrix Brittain; numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Rosa and James Tomlinson; siblings, Jimmie Tomlinson, Jodie Tomlinson, Troy Tomlinson, Opal Bullion, Pauline Templin, Carl Tomlinson, Catherine Tomlinson, Elmer Tomlinson, Nellie Simon and Wayne Tomlinson Sr.; grandson Dylan Gable; and son-in-law, David Gable of Burleson.
Visitation will be held starting at 9:30 am on Saturday, January 11, 2020 at Davis-Morris Funeral Home in Brownwood.
Funeral service will follow visitation at 10:30 am with Jim Maxwell officiating. Interment will be at Eastlawn Memorial Park in Early.
