On Saturday, January 11, 2014, our dear father, grandfather, brother and friend, Wallace David Ross, “Wally”, 80, of San Angelo, Texas went to be with his maker.
Wally was born on September 2, 1933 in Robert Lee, Texas to Alice May Ford Ross and Roy Preston Ross. Wally grew up on a farm two miles from Robert Lee with 5 brothers and 3 sisters. In 1950 Wally joined the US Air Force and served for 4 years as a Radio Intercept Operator. While in service he spent time serving in Japan and in South Carolina. While on leave at home from Japan in 1954, Wally met the love of his life, Billie Dove Allen. On March 14,1955, they were united in marriage. Over the next years Wally was the manager for Fred Meyer, Inc, Strike It Rich and B&W Stores. In 1981 Wally and Bille opened Wally’s Woodworks in Bangs, Texas. The shop is currently owned and operated by family friend, Mr. Dennis Lilley.
Wally was a member of Robert Lee Baptist Church and sang in the choir for the last 3 years they lived in Robert Lee. After moving to San Angelo, Wally and Billie attended Hillcrest Baptist Church in San Angelo, Texas. Wally enjoyed camping, fishing, carpentry, family time and most of all projects in his shop.
Wallace David Ross was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Billie Dove Allen Ross; brothers, Mike Ross, RD Ross and wife Bea Ross, Preston Ross and wife Norma, Joe Ross and Freddy Ross; sister, Edwinna Ross Wilkerson and husband Ellis Wilkerson, and brother in law Elmer Ross.
Wally is survived by his children; Cecil Ross and wife Christy of San Angelo and Diane McClatchy and husband Leslie McClatchy of Bangs; six grandchildren, Carson, Chasity, Sam and Chandra Ross, Cressie and Patton McClatchy; sisters, Barbara Ross Adkins, Alice Ross Wallace and husband Royce Wallace; sister in laws, Marie Ross, Nellie Ross and Shirley Ross.
Visitation will be held all day on Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at Shaffer
Funeral Home in San Angelo, Texas located on Sherwood Way and all day on
Thursday January 16, 2014 at Shaffer Funeral Home in Robert Lee, Texas. Funeral
Services will be at 10 am Friday January 17, 2014 at Robert Lee Baptist Church
in Robert Lee. Pastor Danny White of Robert Lee Baptist Church and Brother Todd Peebles of Hillcrest Baptist Church will be officiating. Interment will follow
in Robert Lee Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Tobin Ross, Carson Ross, Sam Ross, Patton McClatchy, Mason Ross, William Ross, Spencer Ross and Dennis Lilley. Memorials may be sent to Robert Lee Baptist Church. Online condolences may be made at www.shafferpioneer.com.
