Multiple volunteer fire departments from around the area battled a grass fire Sunday afternoon about 6 miles south of Bangs on FM 586 near Concord Baptist Church.

According to Bangs Volunteer Fire Department Chief Dennis Lilley, the fire burned approximately 20-30 acres and a storage shed was also destroyed.   As of about 5:30pm Sunday, the fire was mostly contained, but crews were expected to be on scene for several more hours.

Lilley said that the likely cause of the fire was from a burn barrel which ignited a nearby shed, but Brownwood Fire Marshal Buddy Preston was on scene to investigate and verify the cause.

Volunteer Fire Departments from Bangs, Brookesmith, Lake Brownwood Bridge, Winchell, and Santa Anna were called to assist.  No injuries or other structure damage was reported.
