Memorial services for Vivian Joyce Strickland, 80, of Brownwood, will be held at 4 pm on Saturday, February 2, in the Netherton Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Brian Hall officiating.
Ms. Strickland passed away on Sunday, January 27, 2013, at Brownwood Regional Medical Center.
Vivian “Joyce” Strickland was born on November 6, 1932, in Burkett Texas to Ben and Leah Strickland. She was raised and attended school in Burkett and later moved to Midland, where she retired from Kmart and later worked as the Activity Coordinator at Manor Park Nursing Home for many years.
She loved to spend time with her family and enjoyed cooking, playing card games, and bingo. Joyce loved to travel and had a smile and a laugh that would light up any room. She battled many health issues over the years, and numerous doctors had referred to her as a walking miracle.
She had lived in Brownwood since 2000, moving here from Miles Texas and had resided at Brownwood Retirement Village where she had made many friends and was a member of Lakeview Baptist Church.
Those left behind to cherish her memory are her daughter, Cindy Smith and husband Kelly; son-in-law, Roy Swindle; special sisters-in-law, Mary Sue Inglet and Billie and Burns Tongate, all of Brownwood; Grandchildren, Lynn and Nova Powell, Larry and Becky Baskin, Kimberly and Johnny Vaughan, Charity McKinney, and Melanie and Daniel Strong III. She is also survived by great-grandchildren, Dameion, Amy, Ashley, Taylor, Austin, Destiney, Brittany, Whitney, Devin, Davanna and Daniel IV; and great-great grandson, Warren.
She was preceded in death by three children, Beverly Conner, Phyllis Swindle and James Hill; her parents, Ben Strickland and Leah Wooten Strickland; two brothers, B.L. Strickland and Allie Joe Strickland; and sister, Bennie Booth.
