Virginia Ruth Stevens, born in Weatherford, Texas, on May 10, 1925, to Virgil and Theota (Harwell) Sutton, was the devoted wife of Garland Wayne Stevens, who preceded her in death on March 26, 2009.
She was dearly loved by her two sons, Bob W. Stevens and wife, Dalina Stevens, of Independence, Missouri, and Michael D. Stevens and wife, Barbara Stevens, of Wimberley, Texas; her grandchildren, Blake Stevens and wife, Amber Stevens, of Scott Depot, West Virginia; Virginia Stevens-Crimmins and husband, Matt Crimmins, of Independence, Missouri; and her great-grandchildren, Sophia Crimmins, Colin Crimmins, Ashur Stevens, Jude Stevens, and Kyndan Gilley. She was also looking forward to the arrival of her newest great-granddaughter in May.
She was preceded in death by brothers, Theo Sutton and Doyle Sutton, and sisters, Bertie Van Noy and Irene Griffith, and is survived by three brothers, Deward Sutton, Estal Sutton, and one sister, Rose Lee Daunhauer, and many nieces and nephews.
Ruth was a caring, compassionate and loving wife, mother, and grandmother, who enjoyed her last two years in Wimberley after having spent thirty years with Garland in Democrat. She was blessed with a life that was simple but yet complete in all respects, a life that was full of grace surrounded by the love of those who came to know her, and finally, a life that was not defined by the hardships and difficulties that pursued her but by her beautiful smile and love that she so quietly displayed. She left this life on Saturday, March 5, 2011, but will remain in the hearts of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren forever and ever.
A graveside service will be held Thursday, 11:00 a.m. at Democrat Cemetery, with all arrangements to be handled by Davis-Morris Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations should be made in memory of Virginia Ruth Stevens to the Rock Springs Community Center, P.O. Box 5, Mullin, Texas 76864, to the attention of Peggy Lindsey.
