Special Release – For the first time in the 12-year existence of Victory Life Academy, softball will now be offered. Keith Williams, head coach, said some prodding was required before he agreed to lead the first year team.
“The girls came to me and asked if I would coach a softball team and I said no,” Williams said. “They came back a second time and I still said no, but after the third time, I realized they were serious and interested in having a team.”
Williams finally agreed after telling the group he would coach a team, provided one of the girls would be willing to pitch. A short time later, the demand was met, and after an initial conversation with VLA Superintendent Cathy Roberts, athletic director Christian McDaniel and Victory Life Church Pastor Stan Roberts, work began to assemble a team.
“We are very excited to start a softball program for our young ladies here at Victory Life Academy,” McDaniel said. “We are glad we can offer this program to our young ladies who play in competitive leagues and for those not interested in track and field or golf.”
Character development is another plus with beginning the program. “At VLA, we want to develop student leaders and that is how we coach our kids,” McDaniel said. “To be a competitive fierce athlete with integrity and character. We are blessed with great kids are glad to give these girls the opportunity to complete. “
Williams and assistant coach Ty Lewis will coach first year players Morgan Rangel, Lexi Mason, Rachel Acker, Hannah Williams, Madison Bleth, Sierra Walters, Christina Hare, Kayleigh Ray, Jasmine Walters and Jordan Castleberry.
The Warriors first game will be March 3 in May against the Lady Tigers.
