Victoria Eugenia Pomales Mercado, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother left this temporary life for life everlasting. She was born on May 7, 1928 in Naguabo, Puerto Rico and was soon adopted into another family.
She professed faith in Christ on March 27, 1972. Written in her Bible were these precious words. “I thank God for my many blessings. My God, my children, my home and especially for my faith and salvation.” During a particularly tough trial in her life she penned the following words. “I feel happy because I have my children’s love. My Lord is watching over us because we don’t have anybody else in whom to trust. He promised never to leave me alone. I love God and He loves us. Praise the Lord!”
She married Nelson Mercado and they had three beautiful children named Vivian, Nelson and Diego.
Throughout her life she tailored her hobbies and interests in order to help people. She devoted many hours at a hospital in San Antonio as a volunteer sign language translator. She also enjoyed embroidering pillow cases and other pieces for her loved ones and family members. She was one of the best cooks ever; her arroz con pollo (rice with chicken) was a popular meal, where the main ingredient was love.
GrannyBear was such an encouragement and joy to be around. Her humor was definitely unique and she had a contagious laugh. We are thankful to God for allowing her to be a part of our lives. She passed away on September 19, 2012 at the age of 84.
Her survivors include sons Nelson and Diego, seven grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
The visitation will be Saturday, September 22 from 10-11:30am at Heartland Funeral Home, and the graveside service will be at Coleman Cemetery at 2pm, following the visitation.
1 Peter 2:7 “Unto you therefore which believe he is precious…” Is Christ precious to you?
