Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3278 and the Ladies & Men’s Auxiliaries will observe the end of The War in the Pacific, VJ Day on 3 September, 11:00 AM at the VFW Post at 2300 Stephen F. Austin.
The Post will award Asiatic Pacific Campaign Victory Commemorative Medal to former Soldier Robert W. Hichey. Mr. Hichey enlisted in the Army in November of 1944. He was sent to the Philippines in early May of 1945, and later that month he was wounded in action. He was released from duty in December 1946.
The war against Japan lasted 3 years and 5 months and ended officially September 2, 1945. Over 322,419 Service members were killed, wounded, or listed as missing in action in the Pacific. The public is invited to attend
