Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3278 and the Ladies & Men’s Auxiliary observed Independence Day with a flag retirement ceremony at the post located at 2300 Stephen F. Austin at 10 AM on the 4th of July.
With about 50 people in attendance, over 600 United States, Texas, Military Service, and POW/MIA flags were retired.
The ceremony included the lowering of the retiring flag and raising the new National Ensign to the sound of “To the Colors” then a reading of the history of the 1st announcement of the Declaration of Independence. Organizers said that it took about 7 hours to complete the retirement of all of the flags.
Those in attendance were also treated to hamburgers and hotdogs.
