During Monday’s meeting of the Brown County Commissioners Court, VFW Post 3278 and the Ladies Auxiliary made a presentation to Tam and Amy Nguyen, the parents of Marine Corporal Tevan Nguyen, who was killed in action December 28, 2010 while conducting combat operations in Afghanistan.
The family was presented with a framed photo commemorating Nguyen, along with roses for Amy Nguyen and a teddy bear for Nguyen’s son, Tevan Nguyen Jr.
Pictured, from left, are Joyce Leidig-VFW Post 3278 Ladies Auxiliary, Tam and Amy Nguyen, Jane Masters-Ladies Auxiliary, County Commissioner Joel Kelton, Brown County Judge Ray West and VFW Post Commander James Masters.Nguyen graduated from Hutto High School and was on the championship football team in 2005. He had many relatives and ties to Brownwood. According to a family member, Nguyen enlisted in the Marines his junior year of high school and was on active duty after graduating in 2007.
He was just 21-years-old when he was killed during combat operations on Tuesday, December 28, 2010 in Helmand Province, Afghanistan. His funeral was held in Brownwood with full military honors at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Brownwood. Nguyen is buried in Indian Creek Cemetery which is located along the a portion of CR 237, which was dedicated in his honor in 2014, approximately 7 miles south of Brownwood.
