The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3278 hosted a dinner on Wednesday evening to honor some special people.
Delicious home cooked food awaited the many guests who attended, but that was not to take the focus away from the purpose of the event.
To start off the honoree ceremony, the Gold Star Mothers and Families were recognized. These are families of soldiers lost in the line of duty. Mario and Guadalupe Castillo were recognized for the loss of their son, Lance Cpl. Mario Castillo in 2005.
Rick Phelps also read proclamation to Gold Star Mothers that was given by President Bush last year.
James Masters then had all of the Blue Star Parents to stand and be recognized. Blue Star Mothers & Parents are those who now have, or have had, children honorably serving in the military.
The evening was capped with a moving ceremony honoring POW/MIA’s. It was a symbolic ceremony featuring a table with four place setting & chairs representing the four branches of the armed services.
The ceremony was held and recited by Rick Phelps and Cheryl Campbell.
Phelps said during the ceremony, “They are commonly called POW/MIA’s. We call them brothers. They are unable to be with us and so we remember them today.”
