VFW Post 3278 and its Auxiliary hosted their annual Citizen’s Awards Reception on Thursday, March 24th.
Each recipient was chosen by their supervisors for going above and beyond to serve the community while they performed their job requirements.
Public Safety Awards were as follows:
City of Brownwood Police Department: Officer Jesse Mares
Brown County Sheriff’s Office: Sergeant Larry Saxon
City of Brownwood Fire Department: Driver Jody Horton
Heart of Texas EMS: Paramedic Tim Scalley
Lifeguard EMS: EMT Paul Tidwell
Heart of Texas Veteran’s Clinic: LVN Kelly Mayes
TDCJ Havins Unit: Correctional Officer Diana House, COV
Teacher of the Year: Ann Fowler
Volunteer of the Year: Verna Bolton
Winners of the VFW’s Voice of Democracy and Patriot’s Pen essay contests were also recognized. Each year the VFW holds a contest for area students on local, district, state and national levels. Students are honored with a plaque and cash prizes.
