VFW Post 3278 will be observing its 75th Birthday this year. The National Commander in Chief, Thomas A. Tradewell, issued the Post its 75th Diamond Jubilee Certificate. The Heart of Texas Post was chartered on April 4, 1935.
The Post and its Ladies Auxiliary is very active with Veteran and Community activities. The post assists Veterans in Brown County by supporting the County’s Veterans Assistance Fund which is maintained by the Brown County Veteran Service Office. Other programs include Homeless Veteran Fund raising, Military Assistance Program events, and recognizing local Veterans for their service to our country. Community Programs include Voice of Democracy and Patriot Pen Youth Programs, hosting public events on Patriotic Observances, and Outreach to Veterans and their Widows in Nursing Homes.
The Post also conducted a Rummage Sale to support the 111th Engineer Battalion Christmas Dinner to be held in December. The Post raised over $1700 that will be used to give the unit a “Home Town Christmas Dinner” to the Troops and their Families prior to deployment to Afghanistan.
