paradearticlepicLocal schools and the community are coming together to support veterans and show their appreciation for service to our country.  The public is invited and encouraged to participate in the following events.  Veterans and their families especially are encouraged to come and be honored through these events.

Friday, November 9th

7:50am – East Elementary will be honoring the community’s military – On Friday morning at 7:50 the military will be honored – those currently serving, those who have served and those who have given their lives for our country. Students and faculty will meet at the flag pole as Mrs. Wilbourn will recognizes guests – Veterans from the VA have been invited; soldiers from Camp Bowie and parents who are currently serving in the military.  The Star Spangled Banner will be sung, the poem “In Flanders Fields” will be read and the story behind the red poppy will be told.  Students and faculty will say the pledges, read the words to “Taps” then during the moment of silence, Karissa Means from the BHS band will play “Taps” on the trumpet.

8:15am – Northwest Elementary will have a Veterans Day Program Friday in the front parking lot of the school. Northwest students will be singing “The Star-Spangled Banner” and “This Land Is Your Land.”  High school scouts Aaron Pulley, Jon Tobias, and Robert Dick will be posting the colors.  Eagle Scout Aaron Pulley will tell us about the history and purpose of Veterans Day. Howard Payne sophomore trumpet, Megan Irwin, will play “Taps” to conclude the program. Please join us as we honor our veterans.

Saturday, November 10

10:00am – Veterans Day Parade downtown Brownwood

11:00 – Heart of Texas Veterans Celebration, Program to honor Veterans past and present for their service.

12:00pm – Benefits Fair in the Depot Civic & Cultural Center.  There will be live entertainment, food and a flyover as well as information from federal, state, and local agencies and businesses that provide services to veterans.  For more information, click here.

Monday, November 12

11:40am – Victory Life Academy will be holding a special Veterans Day chapel service to honor those who have served our country. The service will take place in the sanctuary at Victory Life Church at 901 C.C. Woodson Road in Brownwood. All veterans, soldiers, and their loved ones are invited to attend. The service will begin at 11:40 a.m. and should end at about 12:25 p.m. Visitors may want to come a few minutes early to ensure optimum seating.
