IMG_3161For the second year, FROG, Friends and Relatives of Greenleaf (cemetery) will honor veterans buried at Greenleaf this Memorial Day by placing 12x18inch American Flags on veterans’ graves. It is FROG’S goal to honor each and every veteran at Greenleaf by placing a flag at every veteran grave site.

Last year, FROG originally purchased 500 flags and asked that anyone who would like to specifically request a flag placement make contact.  The response was overwhelming–both personal requests and monetary donations. FROG was able to purchase additional flags, and the 95 acre cemetery was definitely a Memorial site to see. By recycling the flags and adding more this year, the tribute to veterans should be better than ever.

Volunteers are in the process of compiling an updated list of veterans at Greenleaf.   Last year, approximately 1,050 flags were placed, the grave sites photographed, and the names documented.  While the complete listing is a “work in progress”, FROG should have this project completed this summer.

Anyone who has a special veteran buried at Greenleaf, especially those families whose markers do not show military service and would like to specifically request a flag should contact Vonne Cornett:  vonnecornett@hotmail.com or 784-5112, Connie Wyatt at conwyatt@yahoo.com or Lynn Gentry at  lngentry@suddenlink.net.
