Northwest Elementary held its annual Veterans Day Program on November 11th. Observers gathered in the front parking lot of the school while Northwest Elementary music teacher, Dean Kiesling, led student performances of “The Star-Spangled Banner” and “This Land Is Your Land.”
Assistant Scout Master Aaron Pulley, a recent BHS graduate and Howard Payne University freshman posted the colors with fellow scouts, Jon Tobias and Robert Dick, both juniors at Brownwood High School.
A presentation was made by Pulley that included a brief history and the purpose of Veterans Day.
“Veterans Day is a day to thank and honor all those that served honorably in the military, both in wartime and in peacetime,” said Pulley who wrapped up his speech by reciting a poem entitled “Veterans Day” by Cheryl Dyson.
The event was concluded with a moment of silence followed by a performance of “Taps” by Howard Payne University junior, Megan Irwin.
“We are so excited to have a very special Veterans Day program,” said Northwest Elementary Principal, Candace Wilson. “We want to thank Mr. Kiesling, the scouts, and Megan for their participation, along with everyone who came to honor our Veterans.”
