Verta “Bodie” (Roberts) Curry, age 96, of Brownwood passed away peacefully Sunday, January 12, 2020, at a local nursing home.
Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Blaylock Funeral Home. Arrangements are under the direction of Blaylock Funeral Home of Brownwood.
Graveside Services for Verta will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 15, 2020, at Eastlawn Memorial Park with Bill Slaymaker officiating.
Verta was born to Charles and Beulah Roberts on June 5, 1923, in Dulin, Texas. She married Johnnie Curry on November 11, 1939; they had 5 children: Johnny, Odessa, Darvin, Lenda, and Sammy. She worked at the Rock River Woolen Mill, 3M, and Brownwood Regional Medical Center; she took care of Alzheimer’s patients until she was 80 when she had a back injury.
She loved gatherings with family and friends, dancing, and eating fish. Verta also enjoyed gardening with her sister, Louise.
Verta is survived by her children, Johnny Curry and wife Byrlene, Odessa Moore and husband Vernon, Darvin Curry, Lenda Wash, Sammy Curry and wife Sheila; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren; and 1 sister, Carnell Rinkenberger. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband Johnnie Curry; parents, Charles and Beulah Roberts; 3 brothers, Charles Jr., Jack, and D.E. Roberts; 4 sisters, Naomi Trent, Elmyra Ann Curry, Louise Trowbrigde, and Bessie McAllister; 4 grandchildren, Raymond Moore, Terry and Kerry Moore, and Tonya Curry; and son-in-law, Galan Wash.
