Memorial services for Verna Fay McKinney, 89, of Brownwood, will be held at 5 pm on Thursday, January 2, in the Netherton Funeral Home Chapel with The Reverend Bill Slaymaker officiating.

In keeping with her wishes, her body will be cremated under the direction of Netherton Funeral Home and Cremations.

Ms. McKinney passed away on Sunday, December 29, 2013, at Brownwood Regional Medical Center.

Verna Fay Tabers was born on January 10, 1924, to Brice and Effie Tabers in Hamilton Texas. She married Robert Pendleton Powers in 1942 and had worked at the Swift Turkey plant. She loved hunting and fishing and later on, playing Bingo. She was a lifetime resident of Brownwood and had been a member of the Lake Brownwood Lions Club for many years.

She is survived by her children; Bobby Powers and companion Deola Mitts of San Angelo, Billy and Tinia Powers of Brownwood, Charlie Powers of Brownwood, Walter Powers of Brownwood and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Willie May Hill of Arlington.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Pendleton Powers; her parents, Brice and Effie Tabers; two sisters and a brother.
