Velma Ruth Seaton, 93, of Brownwood, passed away Sunday, March 1, 2015, in Brownwood. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 4, 2015, in the Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel, at 2:00pm. A private burial will follow in Salt Creek Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, March 3, 2015, from 6:00pm until 8:00pm, at Davis-Morris Funeral Home.
Velma Ruth McHorse Seaton was born March 4, 1921, in San Saba, Texas, to A.O. and Elsie (Briscoe) McHorse. Ruth attended school in San Angelo until the age of 13, when she moved to Early. She graduated from Early High School in 1937. She married Paul M. Seaton on September 30, 1937 in Brownwood, Texas. Ruth was a devoted housewife and helped Paul take care of their dairy farm, all while raising 4 children. Ruth and Paul were members of Salt Creek Baptist Church, where they were very active. Ruth helped with Vacation Bible School and taught Sunday school as well. She was also involved in other various organizations; including the Home Demonstration Club, where Ruth served as President for a number of years. Ruth enjoyed doing different crafts and hobbies and was a talented seamstress; she also had great skill with quilting, crocheting, and needle point work. Ruth had a love of flowers and gardening and was an avid book reader. Over her life, she was able to read many different titles thanks, in part, to her ability to speed read. Ruth was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend. She will be dearly missed by all that knew her and loved her. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Oakridge Manor, Gentiva Hospice, and Davis-Morris Funeral Home for their care and compassion while taking care of Mrs. Seaton.Ruth was preceded in death by her loving husband, Paul Seaton; her daughter, Ruthie Jean Seaton Burleson; her son, Marion Olsey Seaton; her parents, A.O. and Elsie McHorse; and 2 sisters, Lucille Chambers and Lola Mae Davis.
Ruth is survived by 2 daughters, Cheryl Puckett and husband Jim, of Bangs and Paulette Warren, of Sweetwater; a sister, Mary Louise Swindell; 7 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren.
