According to Brownwood Police reports, while on patrol Sunday morning at approximately 3am, Officer Bastardo noted a car parked behind Texas Bank’s drive-thru on Hwy 377S with its interior light appearing to be on. Upon closer inspection, the officer reported that the gold 1999 model Chevy Tahoe had damage to the front left tire, as it was bent inward. Earlier, the Early Police Department had a report of a stolen vehicle. Bastardo called dispatch to report that this vehicle seemed to match the description of the earlier mentioned stolen vehicle.
Dispatch told the Bastardo that Officer Furry of the EPD was en route to the scene with the owner of the stolen vehicle. Before the two arrived, Officer Bastardo began investigating the scene further and noted that there was a 2 foot tall steel upright pipe that had been struck and was lying on its side about 3 feet from where it was originally installed according to the police report. There was also some damage to the cement barrier along the first drive through lane. The report also states that the adjacent stucco wall was damaged, apparently having been struck, moving the night deposit box into the bank from the impact.
Officer Furry arrived with the owner of the vehicle, Daniel Castillo, 37, of Early. The report states that officers believed that Castillo was possibly a suspect in the accident and was believed to have been driving the vehicle, then reported it as having been stolen. The report also states that officers were not able to find proof of insurance for Castillo and later officers also found that Castillo’s license had been suspended.
It was estimated that the damage to the building was approximately $15,000. The police report states that Castillo admitted that he was in fact the driver of the vehicle. Castillo was arrested for False Report to a Police Officer, Driving While License Invalid, and Criminal Mischief >$1500<$20,000.
