Early Police Department made an arrest in a hit and run accident involving a vehicle striking a residence on Monday evening, according to EPD Chief of Police David Mercer who released the following information.
The accident occurred at approximately 6:10 p.m. Early Police Department and Early Volunteer Fire Department were dispatched to the 200 block of Lucus Drive where a vehicle crashed into an apartment building, driving completely into the bedroom. The vehicle then backed out and drove away, explained Mercer.No injuries were reported since the resident of the apartment was in the another room, away from where the accident occurred, according to the report.
The vehicle description was broadcast to local units and later located leaving a liquor store in Brownwood, explained Mercer. A Brown County Sheriff’s Office unit located and stopped the vehicle and was met by EPD Sergeant Steven Means. Field sobriety tests were attempted to be conducted by Sgt. Means; however, the test was unable to be completed due to the suspect’s level of intoxication, according to the report.
As the officers were placing the driver under arrest, he began claiming to have chest pains, the report states. EMS was called to check the driver and he was transported to the Brownwood Regional Medical Center’s emergency room, the report states. While at the emergency room, Sgt. Means obtained a consent for a blood draw, which will be submitted to the DPS crime lab and a warrant will be obtained at a later date, explained Mercer.
A damage estimate is unknown at this time, as the apartment was severely damaged during the incident, according to Chief Mercer.
