IMG_2353 - CopyaBrownwood Lion Kevin Vaccaro will be joining the University of Texas Longhorns football team next year after visiting with team officials over the weekend.

Vaccaro verbally committed to play for the University of Texas over the weekend after he attended the team’s annual awards banquet Friday night and after Texas made him a scholarship offer this weekend.  He is the 24th pledge to UT’s 2012 recruiting class.

“Kevin is just a great all around player – can play cornerback or safety,” said Brownwood Lions Head Coach Bob Shipley.  “He has an incredible burst and acceleration which makes him stand out from other recruits in my opinion. I look for him to play cornerback there and be an immediate help in special teams coverage. I’m so happy for him.”

Vaccaro chose the Longhorns over offers from Louisiana Tech and UTSA. He was also getting interest from Nevada, TCU and SMU.  He will be joining his brother Kenny and former Lion teammate Jaxon Shipley next year as a Texas Longhorn.

“The bonus for him is that he gets to play with his brother Kenny and Jaxon,” Coach Shipley said.  “He’s pretty special to our family on a personal level. We’re so excited for him because he’s like a member of our family.”
