BrownwoodVAclinicCoinciding with National Employee Health and Fitness Day, the Central Texas Veterans Health Care System (CTVHCS) is hosting a VA2K Walk and Roll event on Wednesday, May 15, 2013, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The event encourages employees, Veterans and the public to join in a fun, short walk to promote health but also support homeless Veterans.  The event will include music, food and giveaways (while supplies last).  Those wishing to participate may select one of the locations listed below.

“Worksite wellness activities enhance employee engagement and contribute to a more productive and healthy workforce,” said Thomas Smith, Director.  “Last year, VA’s 2K events across our Central Texas Veterans Health Care System were extremely successful, and this year, we intend to collect even more in-kind donations and involve more participants in support of wellness and homeless Veterans.”

The CTVHCS event is just one of many 2Ks taking place May 15 at other VA facilities across the country.  There is no registration fee, but employees and others participating in the event are asked to donate an item for a homeless Veteran; such as underwear, T-shirts and socks (new, in unopened packages), toiletry items (alcohol free), phone cards, bus tokens, or boots and shoes (clean and not worn).  Voluntary Service will be on hand to accept in-kind and cash donations to be used to help carry out existing VA programs for homeless Veterans.  However, there is no requirement for a donation in order to participate.

The Brownwood VA2K will take place around the local VA clinic, 2600 Memorial Park Drive
