ConawayHeadshotDue to immigration issues at the Texas border from Mexico, Congressman Mike Conaway offered the following message regarding his cancellation of a town hall meeting in Brownwood.

“I was scheduled to hold a town hall in Brownwood this Friday the 18th, but I am postponing it so I can see first-hand what is currently going on at the border between Texas and Mexico.   I will do my best to reschedule the Brownwood town hall for August.

The many town halls that I hold are an important part of my job.  These meetings throughout the 11th District are valuable because I am able to both hear people’s thoughts and ideas about local and national issues, and answer their questions about how I have represented them.  Because of that, the decision to postpone the Brownwood town hall was not made lightly.

During this Friday’s trip, I will have the opportunity see what the Border Patrol is doing to stem the tide of unaccompanied illegal immigrant children and speak with Border Patrol agents about the resources that they already have and those that they need.

For those of you who would like to discuss the border situation or other issues with me, I will be on 102.3 KXYL in Brownwood at 6:40 a.m. on Monday July 21st.  They will be taking calls and I look forward to reporting back to the citizens of Brownwood my assessment of the current situation.

Please accept my apology for postponing the town hall.  This was an extraordinary circumstance.  In order to be able to effectively understand this issue, it is important that I visit the border as soon as possible.”
