Several businesses, organizations, and churches in the Brownwood area are hosting events celebrating fall as well as Halloween. Residents of all ages, both the young and young at heart, are encouraged to attend. October 31st, or Halloween, falls on Monday this year and in addition to trick-or-treating, many places in the Brownwood area will be hosting special events leading up to the day.

Songbird Lodge Fall Festival

Friday, October 21st

6-7:30 p.m.

Songbird Lodge will be hosting a Fall Festival for the community on Friday, October 21st from 6-7:30 p.m. at 2500 Songbird Circle in Brownwood near the hospital. Carnival style games and bounce houses will be available.

4th Annual Zombie 5K

Saturday, October 22nd

5-8 p.m.

The fourth annual Zombie 5K Getaway is coming to Riverside Park in Brownwood on Saturday, October 22nd, benefiting the Brown County United Way. Registration gets underway at 5:00 p.m. CLICK HERE for more information.  The Brown County United Way raises funds for the following local agencies:  Brown County 4-H Clubs, Girl Scouts Heart of Texas Council, Boys and Girls Clubs, Pearl Griffin Memorial Latch Key, Mid-Tex Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse, CASA, The Ark, Brown County Association for Retarded Citizens, Cancer Services Network, Family Services Center, American Red Cross Pecan Valley Chapter, Salvation Army Loaves and Fishes and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Brown County.

Fun Day at the Museum

Saturday October 22nd

11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Children of all ages are welcome to come to the Brown County Museum of History to create their very own pumpkin to take home and display. Cost is only $5 per person. The Brown County Museum is located at 212 N. Broadway, diagonally from the courthouse. For more information, call 325-641-1926

Scavenger Hunt Bingo at the Lehnis Railroad Museum

Saturday October 22nd

10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Every Saturday during October from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. children of all ages as well as adults are encouraged to participate in a Scavenger Hunt Bingo. Prizes are available after specified items are discovered within the museum. Admission into the museum is $3 for adults, $2 for children ages 5-12, and under 5 years old are admitted for no charge. The mini train rides are also available for $2 per passenger.

Early First Baptist Church Fall Festival

Wednesday, October 26th

5:30-7:30 p.m.

The Early First Baptist Church will host their annual fall festival in the church’s Christian Activity Center on October 26th from 5:30-7:30 p.m.  The public is invited to attend and admission is free. The festival will feature carnival style games and activities as well as treats.

1st Annual Theatre of Darkness

Friday, October 28th

7-11 p.m.

The Brownwood High School Theatre Department presents their 1st Annual “Theatre of Darkness,” a spooky tour backstage at the high school theatre, Friday October 28th from 7-11 p.m. and Saturday October 29th from 6 p.m. to midnight. Admission is $5 and Children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult. This is a family friendly haunt with meausres in place to empower even the youngest patrons.

Dairy Queen First Annual Trunk or Treat

Saturday October 29th

6-8 p.m.

Dairy Queen will be holding it’s first annual Trunk-or-treat. Children are welcome to trick-or-treat for candy and other treats. There will also be a costume contest at 7 p.m. with prizes for winners and participants.

“Monster Quest” Haunted Museum Tour

Saturday October 29th

7:30-11:55 p.m.

“Monster Quest” will be presented by Alpha Psi Omega from Howard Payne University and the Brown County Museum of History. Tours of the Brown County Museum will take place every 15 minutes. Tickets are $5 per person. Ages 10 years old and up is recommended due to theatrical scares. The Brown County Museum is located at 212 N. Broadway, diagonally from the courthouse. Jomio and Rueliete’s Cards & Comics Annual Halloween Costume Contest/ComicFest

5:30-10:30 p.m.

Jomio and Rueliete’s Cards and Comics will host their annual Halloween costume contest and Halloween ComicFest from 5:30-10:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 29th. There are three age categories for the costume contest: Children (under 12), Tweens and Teens (12-17), and Adult (18 and over). Freedom Fellowship Church Trunk or Treat

4-6 p.m.

Freedom Fellowship Church will host a trunk or treat at their church, located at 1040 Early Blvd. in Early. Carnival style games, candy, hot dogs, and drinks will be available at no charge to the public.

Trick-or-Treat in Heartland Mall

Saturday, October 29th

6-8 p.m.

Heartland Mall, located at 300 Early Boulevard, will be hosting its annual Fall Festival with candy, carnival style games, a cake walk, and other family friendly activites. A costume contest hosted by The Salvation Army will also be held during the evening. Cost of entry for the contest is two cans of corn, which will be donated to The Salvation Army’s kitchen.

Southside Church Trunk or Treat

Sunday, October 30th

6:00 – 8:00 p.m.

Southside Church will host their annual Trunk or Treat on Sunday, October 30th. Come in costume and enjoy lots of fun and candy. Southside Church is located at 1219 Indian Creek in Brownwood.

Early Church of Christ Trunk-or-Treat

Sunday, October 30th

5-6:30 p.m.

Early Church of Christ is hosting a Trunk-or-Treat evening on the 30th, 5:00-6:30PM, at the church building parking lot, 900 Early Blvd. Non-scary themes are encouraged for the younger attendees.

Austin Avenue Church of Christ Trunk or Treat

Sunday, October 30th

5:30-7:00 p.m.

Austin Avenue Church of Christ will host a Trunk-or-Treat on Sunday, October 30th from 5:30-7 p.m. There will be trunks with candy and trinkets. Games will be available for children as well. Family friendly costumes are encouraged.

8th Annual Trick-or-Treat Downtown

Monday, October 31st

5-8 p.m.

Trick-or-treaters are invited to visit several downtown businesses during the 8th Annual Trick-or-Treat Downtown event hosted by Fancy’s Day Spa and The Texas Massage Academy. Candy and other Halloween-related fun will be distributed by businesses along and near Center Avenue during the evening. Businesses currently scheduled to participate in the event include Hamilton’s, World Finance, Brownwood Fitness Center, Shearly Southern, Security Finance, Fancy’s Day Spa, and the Texas Massage Academy. Coggin Avenue Baptist Church Fall Festival

Coggin Avenue Baptist Church invites the public to enjoy family fun at their annual fall festival from 5:30 – 7:30 on October 31st.  The church is located at 1815 Coggin Avenue in Brownwood. Carnival style games, bounce houses, candy and hot dogs will be available for no charge.

5th Annual Trick or Treat Trail

Monday, October 31st

5-7 p.m.

The Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce and Wendlee Broadcasting have teamed up again this year to host the 5th Annual Trick or Treat Trail. This family friendly event will be held in the Depot Plaza area on Monday, October 31st from 5-7 p.m. Area businesses and organizations will offer candy, goodies, games and other fun activities free of charge to area residents. Also included during the event will be a Halloween Costume Contest sponsored by Demand Staff. The contest will offer prizes in the categories of most creative costume, best couple costume, best family costume, best group costume, cutest baby costume and best children’s costume. Entry forms for the costume contest are available at the Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce – 600 E. Depot Street or online at BrownwoodChamber.org. During the Trick or Treat Trail, a family-friendly movie will be shown in the Depot pavilion lawn sponsored by Affiliated Bank and Baird Brothers Express Car Wash. Brownwood Nursing & Rehab, located at 101 Miller Drive in Brownwood will host a Trunk or Treat event with carnival style games, face painting, bounce houses, and candy for trick-or-treaters.

Vicksburg Retirement Community – Handing out Candy

Monday, October 31st

6-8 p.m.

Vicksburg Retirement Community invites trick or treaters to visit residents at 3020 4th Street. Residents will be handing out candy beginning at 6 p.m.

Brown County Sheriff’s Office – Handing out Candy

Monday, October 31st

5:30-7:30 p.m.

Brown County Sheriff’s Office will be handing out candy in front of the Brown County Law Enforcement Center, located at 1050 W. Commerce in Brownwood, beginning at 5:30 p.m. until approximately  7:30 p.m.

Cross Country Health Care – Handing out Candy

Starting at 6 p.m.

Cross Country Health Care, located at 1514 Indian Creek in Brownwood will be handing out candy starting at 6 p.m.

Brownwood Evangelism Center Trunk-or-Treat

Monday, October 31st

6-8 p.m.

Vehicles, decorated in a Disney movie theme, will line the parking lot at 2515 Ave D. giving out goodies to all the kids. There will also be refreshments available.

Brownwood Nursing & Rehabilitation Halloween Carnival

Brownwood Nursing & Rehabilitation located at 101 Miller Drive will be hosting their annual Halloween Carnival with games and candy for trick-or-treaters.

First Christian Church annual Trunk or Treat

The First Christian Church, located at 2411 Coggin Avenue, will be hosting their annual Trunk or Treat event. The community is welcome to attend.
