The Brown County United Way held their annual Campaign Appreciation Luncheon on Thursday recognizing donors who made pledges totaling more than $247,000 to help local agencies.
Guest speaker, Christine Rose, spoke to the crowd about how quickly things changed for her and her son when their home burned in January of this year. Rose described how the fire spread quickly, she got to safety and how emergency personnel such as Brown County Sheriff’s Deputy John Harper, Steve Adams, Winchell Volunteer Fire Department, and the Brownwood Fire Department and others responded to help in her time of need. Rose explained that Jeanette with the Red Cross came and sat with her in a car, handing her a prepaid credit card with funds to enable her to buy necessities when all of Rose’s belongings were destroyed in the fire.
“Everything was destroyed. I’m really grateful to the Red Cross and the United Way for supporting me,” said Rose. “I’m very grateful to the fire departments and law enforcement, just everyone. And, the dog was saved.”
