United Way of Brown County presented checks to 13 local agencies after surpassing the organization’s 2012 campaign goal.

Executive Director Karen Lynch shared the good news Tuesday at a board meeting that last year’s campaign surpassed their goal, which had been set a bit lower than previous years at $250,000.

“It’s been a hard year for us, well for everybody, and we had to drop our goal as well as the percentage we asked (of donors), but we met and actually beat the goal,” said Lynch who then distributed checks totaling over $25,000 to area agencies supported by the Brown County United Way.  These funds represented the money received above the 2012 budget of $250,000.

As checks were being accepted by representatives of each agency, Salvation Army Director Donna Harris accepted the check with gratitude.  “I love it when God overflows the cup,” said Harris.

Agencies supported by United Way of Brown County include:

Cancer Services Network

Salvation Army

Latch Key

Girl Scouts

Brown County 4-H

Boys and Girls Club of Brown County

The Ark Domestic Violence Shelter

American Red Cross

Big Brothers Big Sisters

Mid-Texas Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse

Lynch reminded those present to mark the date of March 20th for the United Way Celebration Luncheon.
