Brown County United Way held its annual appreciation luncheon on Thursday, April 3rd at the Jackson Conference room at Howard Payne University.
This year’s campaign exceeded the board’s initial goal by more than $5000 with pledges of over $265,000 being received through the campaign.

More than $247,000 was received from top contributors, local businesses, industries and other organizations, in amounts of $1,000 or more. The remaining $17,590 was given by small businesses and individuals.

Doak Givan, Executive Director of the Family Services Center introduced guest speaker Ashley Jackson, a client at the Family Services Center and program director at the Boys & Girls Club.
Givan stated the importance of knowing how money donated to any charity or program is utilized.
“I like to know how my investment turns out,” said Givan. “It encourages us to keep giving and to spread the word to others.”
He explained how Jackson is an example of this.
Jackson told of how she sees daily the impact of what donations to the United Way provide the community. Through parenting classes, the Family Services Center helped her to realize that parenting classes are for all parents, not just those who are troubled. Through experiencing these classes personally, she has since helped bring them to the Boys & Girls Club to help parents of their students.
