TxDotlogoMaintenance offices across the Abilene and Brownwood Districts are gearing up for an approaching winter storm expected to move into the area later today.

Crews are preparing equipment and loading trucks with de-icing materials in anticipation of wintery precipitation that could impact travel throughout the region. Staff members are monitoring weather conditions closely and coordinating with other agencies, such as the National Weather Service, Department of Public Safety, and local and county officials to streamline response efforts.

When treating roadways for snow and ice, TxDOT focuses on the most heavily traveled roadways first, with particular attention to the I-20 corridor. Crews then move on to lower traffic roads when major routes are under control.

Although TxDOT will be working around the clock to keep roadways clear, driving conditions can change quickly during winter weather even after roads have been treated. Drivers are urged to delay travel until weather conditions improve.
