Brownwood News – A major accident Monday evening, just outside of Early, required two Air Evac helicopters to transport those injured from the scene.

According to the Early Fire Department, the two vehicle crash, involving an SUV and pickup, was on Highway 183/84 and County Road 270 and happened at about 6:30 pm.

Firemen arrived to find the driver of the SUV out of the vehicle but the occupants of the pickup were still trapped inside.  The Jaws of Life device had to be used to extricate the trapped occupants.  Lifeguard EMS provided patient care until two Air Evac helicopters landed on the highway.  According to Early Fire Department, one patient was flown to Scott and White Hospital in Temple.  The other was taken to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth.  The extent of their injuries was unknown.  The driver of the SUV was not injured.
