An elderly woman was injured in a two-vehicle accident involving a semi-truck and trailer Wednesday afternoon.

The accident occurred at approximately 1:40 p.m. when the woman, driving a Cadillac sedan, attempted to turn left from the main entrance of Commerce Square onto W. Commerce.  As the Cadillac entered the intersection, it was struck by a Freightliner semi-truck and trailer, which was traveling west on Commerce.

A witness stated that she saw the Cadillac move forward as the traffic light displayed a green left turn arrow and seconds later, it was struck by the semi in a “T-bone” fashion at the driver’s side door.  The woman was trapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated.

Emergency responders stated that the female was alert and talking; however, she complained of neck and back pain, and the extent of her injuries were not available at the time of the accident.  She was transported by ambulance to the emergency room for evaluation and treatment of her injuries.

It was unknown what caused the semi to continue through the intersection.  The semi driver was uninjured and his vehicle received minimal damage.

Brownwood Fire Department, Brownwood Police Department and Lifeguard Ambulance responded to the scene.
