A 2-vehicle accident at about 3:30pm Friday in the 600 block of W. Austin Avenue resulted in one driver being transported to the hospital and left two vehicles heavily damaged.

Witnesses on scene state the driver of the pickup pulled out in front of the Jeep, which was in the inside lane, causing the collision.  Both vehicles were heavily damaged with fluids from the engines spilling into the roadway.

The pickup slid nearly a block from the crash site, spinning backward and hitting a light pole.

“There’s 20 feet of skid marks from the Jeep,” stated the officer in charge of the accident scene.  “Looks like the driver of the Jeep tried to brake, but they locked up and he just couldn’t avoid him (the pickup).”  The officer stated that the pickup reportedly stopped at the stop sign and then pulled out, not seeing the oncoming Jeep.

The driver of the pickup was put into a neck brace and transported by Guardian EMS to Brownwood Regional Medical Center. He was conscious and speaking with emergency responders.  Both vehicles were unable to be driven and were towed from the scene.   The 21-year-old male driver of the Jeep reported that the air bag in his vehicle functioned properly keeping him from being injured; however his glasses were broken during the collision.

Brownwood firemen were on scene cleaning up the roadway Friday afternoon, removing fuel and debris from the collision.

Below are photos of the damage caused by the collision.
