A one-vehicle rollover accident on Hwy 183 near Turkey Peak Road (County Road 291) injured two people and their cat Friday afternoon.

Just before 2:30 p.m., as a Houston man and his wife were coming into Early, their vehicle left the roadway and overturned.  According to emergency responders, the couple had left Houston, on the way to Pagosa Springs, Colorado, and were hoping to make it to Lubbock where they had planned to stay overnight.  Just outside of Early, the vehicle left the road, possibly due to the driver falling asleep, according to DPS Trooper Travis Hounshell.

The couple was transported by Guardian EMS and reported to be “bruised and banged up;” however, their injuries were thought to be non-life threatening.  They were traveling with their cat, which appeared to be uninjured; however it too was transported with the man and his wife to the hospital where arrangements for the cat’s boarding will be made, according to responders on scene.

The vehicle sustained heavy damage as pictured above and below.

Traffic was blocked in the outside lane of northbound traffic, but continued to flow in the inside lane.

Early Volunteer Fire Department, Early Police Department, Texas Department of Public Safety, Brown County Sheriff’s Office and Guardian EMS responded to the scene of the accident.
