Brown County Sheriff’s investigators executed a search warrant on Wednesday at a Brownwood home which led to the arrest of a man and his girlfriend for drug activity, according to law enforcement officials.

At approximately 10:00 a.m., BCSO investigators along with the assistance of a Brownwood Police Department investigator executed the warrant for methamphetamine on 34-year-old Kevin Sliger and his residence in the 1800 block of 8th Street.  Two adults were present in the house, Sliger and his girlfriend 34-year-old Shanna Lynn Hughitt, the arrest affidavit states.  According to BCSO Captain Tony Aaron, investigators had been working for a couple of months regarding information they had received about possible methamphetamine and other drug-type traffic coming and going to the house.

During the search of the house, approximately 16.7 grams of methamphetamine, 4.3 grams of cocaine, 24.7 grams of marijuana, $830 cash along with 32.9 grams of adulterant “cut” was seized from the residence, according to BCSO investigators.  Packaging and digital scales were also seized which, along with the amount of methamphetamine seized, were consistent with drug distribution.

The location of the house is within 1000 feet of the Boys and Girls Club, which is located at 1600 Avenue K in Brownwood, and is a drug free zone.  Sliger and Hughitt were both arrested and each charged with two counts of manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance penalty group 1 greater than 4 grams less than 200 grams in a drug free zone; possession of marijuana greater than 2 ounces in a drug free zone.  Hughitt is being held in the Brown County Jail in lieu of $55,000.  Sliger is also being held in the Brown County Jail in lieu of bonds totaling $125,000.

As BCSO investigators executed the warrant, several neighbors came outside and began to cheer and applaud, reported Aaron.

“It’s unusual to get that type of response.  It was encouraging to the officers to see a visual expression of citizens’ appreciation,” said Aaron.  “Sliger had only resided at the residence on 8th Street for 3 weeks and in that short period; neighbors were fed up with it (drug traffic).”

More arrests are expected to follow in connection to this case, according to BSCO officials.
