Two people were arrested Sunday night after the Brown County Sheriff’s Office received a report that a man was run over by a vehicle at his home on County Road 456 near the Lake Brownwood bridge.

Sheriff’s officials said that 29-year-old Richard Nichols and his girlfriend 29-year-old Jamie Sims were both taken into custody and are charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.   Investigators said that the victim, 42-year-old Andrew Pruett, had serious injuries to his left leg which was run over by the vehicle.  Guardian EMS responded to the scene and it was reported that the victim had a compound fracture to his left leg causing both bones to be sticking out of the shin.   He also had a superficial wound to his head as a result of the incident.   BCSO officials said that Pruett was hospitalized and has had a plate put in his left leg to repair the injuries.

The victim told officers that Nichols had been making advances towards his girlfriend.  He told investigators that they had planned to meet to work out the issue when Nichols ran over him Sunday night.  The victim also said that Nichols got out of the vehicle after the incident and hit him in the head with a tire iron.

Authorities said that the suspects fled the scene but were found shortly afterwards at Thrifty Park by BCSO deputies.

Nichols and Sims told authorities that the incident was not intentional and nothing more than an accident.    Sims also told investigators that she was the one driving the vehicle.  Nichols and Sims are being held in Brown County Jail each on $35,000 bond.

Officials are continuing their investigation into the incident.
