The Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce will host its monthly luncheon will be Friday, February 18th at the Brownwood Country Club from 11:30 AM to 1 PM. The luncheon, which is open to members and guests, will feature an interesting program and will also include door prizes, introduction of new members and a cash drawing.
The featured speaker will be Bob Turner, Rural Issues Consultant who has offices at Voss (Coleman County) and also in Austin, Texas. He will discuss the current legislative session. Turner was recently hired by the Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce & Brown County Legislative Affairs Committee to work with and provide advice to the community on a variety of issues. He will explain how the estimated $25 billion shortfall may cause drastic cuts to state funded agencies, with a special emphasis on those operating in Brown County. Turner graduated from the Army Command and General Staff College in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.
When he retired as a Lt. Colonel after 35 years from the US Army Reserve, Turner was awarded the Honor Cross in Silver by the Federal Republic of Germany. He then served in the Texas House of Representatives, retiring in January 2003. He has served as a School Board Member, Chamber of Commerce President and member of the Economic Development Board in his community. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Texas Rural Development Council. He is a former state Board Member and Vice-President of the Texas Farm Bureau. Still a member of that organization, he has received the Fred Earwood Memorial Award for Service from the Texas Sheep & Goat Raisers in 2003 and the Texas Farm Bureau Award for Outstanding and Meritorious Service to Agriculture in 2005.
Bob is married to Mona and they live on part of the family property that his grandfather purchased more than 100 years ago in Voss, Texas. Between them, they have four grown sons and seven grandchildren. Turner is the Music Director and Lay Speaker for the United Methodist Church.
The cost of the luncheon is $11 per person to be paid at the door. Attendees may charge their meals to their personal country club account.
