Demonstrations will also take place each day during exhibit hours from a variety of artists. There is no charge to enter the exhibit or attend the demonstrations.

Tuesday’s Artists:

1. Paula Vaughn, has been involved in art all of her life, and has been privileged to study with many talented artists over the years. She majored in art at Cisco Jr. College and (what is now) Texas State University, where she received a Bachelor of Science in Education with all level certification in art.

Vaughn works in oils on occasion, but pastel is her medium of choice. She can work fast most of the time, finishing a painting in a few hours and there are no brushes to wash! She enjoys a variety of subject matters, but people are her favorite. She’ll be demonstrating portraits in pastel using a live model for most of the time. This will be her third year to demonstrate for Stars of Texas.

Vaughn lives in Comanche, where she is involved with the Comanche County Art Association. She’s served as an officer and has chaired the Comanche County Pow Wow Art Show and Sale for several years. She also enjoys painting with a group of artists in Dublin once a week as well as “People Painters” in Brownwood every Wednesday.

“I’m really happy for the opportunity to demonstrate what I do and just to paint all day. I hope others will be inspired and learn that portraits aren’t as hard as they seem to paint.”

2. Jacque Rider, who moved to Brownwood with her family in 1983, will be demonstrating painting with acrylics.

Other media used by Rider  include watercolors, ink, printmaking, fiber arts, wire, wood, papier-mâché, and basically anything that can be used to create art. She is mostly inspired by God’s creations found in nature.

Growing up in Dallas and the North Texas area, Jacque Rider developed a passion for art. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art and a lifetime all-level art teaching certificate through the University of Texas at Arlington. Later she earned her elementary through eighth grade level teaching certificate from Howard Payne University. She taught 28 years for Early ISD until she retired in 2016, ending her career teaching art at Early Middle School.

Rider is a member of the Brownwood Art Association and the Artisan Market of Brownwood.  She is on the Altar Guild at St John’s Church and helps monthly with its Food Pantry. She practices yoga and TaiChi so she can keep up with her two young grandsons who live in Crowley and her five great -nephews of Brownwood.

3. Christopher Gaston is a local artist, writer, and musician.  He has been a stars demonstrator for many years.  This year he will be doing an interactive demonstration which shows the correlation between music and art by having students listen to live music and then use their imaginations to create the image of what they think the music looks like.
