The 2011 TTAS Midget State Softball Tournament kicked off Monday at the Bert V. Massey Sports Complex with 22 teams in the 10-and-under division looking to win the state championship. The tournament will run from Monday, July 18 through Saturday, July 23.
“We started this season with well over several hundred teams across the state of Texas in this age group, and this is the 22 best teams that are left,” said tournament director Larry Mullins. “It is an accomplishment just to get here.”
Mullins told those in attendance that this is the first TTAS Midget State Tournament to be played on the new sports complex and that all of the local residents and visitors will be appreciative of the new facilities. He also told the out-of-town guests that he was hopeful that they will feel welcome in the community during the week of the tournament.
“A few years ago, the community came up with the slogan ‘Brownwood Feels Like Home’,” Mullins said. “While you are here, I want to do everything we can to make you feel at home.”
Local teams Brownwood Fire & Ice and the Brownwood Eruption are the host teams. The Early Twisters, Cross Plains Stampede, Hillsboro Dynamite, Whitney Montes Restaurant, Belton Hammerheads, Grand Saline Lady Indians, Hico Wrecking Crew, Emory Mustangs, Thorndale Crush, Stephenville Crush, Rogers Survivors, Belton Sharks, Mexia Lady Rangers, West Arbonne, Troup ColdPlay, Frankston Heat, Athens Spitfire, Athens Fusion, Rusk Boom and Normangee Nitro are all participating in the tournament.
