TSTC West Texas will announce some employee layoffs next week.
President Mike Reeser confirmed the news today and issued the following statement:
“As you may know, a few months ago the state government cut our funding for this year and next. Since a vast majority of our funds are spent on salaries, we discovered we could not return enough funds to the state government without impacting job positions at our college. It is our deepest hope if the economy remains stable and we prudently manage our budgets that we will not have to revisit this situation again. At TSTC we value all of our employees and are saddened by these circumstances.”
State agencies have been asked to make 10 percent budget cuts on top of the five percent already requested.
Reeser did not say which of its four campuses would be losing positions. He wanted employees to be notified first before releasing any details.
