130 students will walk the stage Monday, Dec.14, at Texas State Technical College’s Fall Commencement Ceremony. The ceremony will begin at 7 p.m. at the Abilene Civic Center.
As part of its 50th anniversary, TSTC will give all students graduating in 2015 a commemorative Stole of Gratitude. The stole will feature the unique TSTC 50th anniversary logo, and students will be able to gift it to a special person who has helped them along their journey at TSTC.
TSTC offers specialized, hands-on instructional courses leading to Associate of Applied Science degrees and Certificates of Completion, in areas such as automotive, computer networking, diesel equipment, machining, welding and wind energy.

Cecil Cox, a Brownwood student who graduates Monday with a degree in Software & Business Management Accounting, has been operating his own business, Cup-la-Nutz, for three years now. He started towards a Bachelor’s degree at a university.“I started out at Howard Payne University intending to get a Bachelor’s Degree in Small Business Accounting,” Cox said, “but because of the time I had to be in class it made it almost impossible to have a family life.”
With 10 grandchildren, family time is an important part of Cecil’s life, so he chose TSTC instead.
“After three semesters there and looking at several colleges in the area, I decided to attend TSTC,” Cox said. “The minimal classroom time and the ability to work online made TSTC a great choice for me.”
Cox said the degree will benefit him with his company.
“Since taking these classes I have found easier ways to operate software and ways to make it work better,” Cox said. “Manufacturing accounting is different than most other accounting procedures, and now I am able to keep better track of my products and the cost of producing the end goods.”
According to O*NET OnLine, Texas expects a 21 percent increase in Bookkeeping, Accounting, and Auditing Clerks over the next seven years. TSTC offers an Associate of Applied Science in Software & Business Management Accounting. Certificates are also available. Software & Business Management Accounting is available at the Abilene, Breckenridge, Brownwood and Sweetwater campuses.
TSTC has more than 800 candidates for graduation this Fall across the state.
