The Executive Committee of the TSTC Board of Regents announced the finalist in the Chancellor search to be Michael L. Reeser.
“I’m very honored to be chosen as the sole final candidate for Chancellor of the TSTC System. I love this institution and the students we serve, so this new opportunity is a true delight for me.” said Reeser in a recent interview.
Currently, Reeser serves as president of TSTC West Texas. He has been an executive in various roles with TSTC for more than 11 years. In addition to president, he has served as vice president and dean of instruction for TSTC West Texas, and chief financial officer for TSTC System.
For three consecutive years, TSTC West Texas has ranked in the Top 30 Best Two-Year Colleges by Washington Monthly, most recently ranking Number 2 in Texas. Under his direction, TSTC West Texas has maintained an unprecedented array of partnerships with regional community colleges that transformed TSTC into an indispensible component of higher education and economic development in the region. Prior to his tenure with TSTC, Reeser served for ten years in financial and operational management in for-profit corporations.
In August, the Regents accepted Chancellor Bill Segura’s retirement notice and began the search process.
Dr. Segura joined TSTC as Chancellor in February 1998 and went on to serve as the eighth and longest tenured CEO of the TSTC System in its 45-year history. He has led Texas State Technical College (www.tstc.edu) and its four technical colleges, TSTC Harlingen, TSTC Marshall, TSTC Waco, and TSTC West Texas, with campuses in Abilene, Breckenridge, Brownwood, and Sweetwater.
The TSTC Board of Regents are expected to discuss and may take action on the Chancellor position at the November 5 Board meeting in Sweetwater.
The process to name a new president for TSTC West Texas will not begin until January. Gail Lawrence, the current Executive Vice President, will serve as interim president of TSTC West Texas according to Reeser.
