BPDpatchSmallA widespread power outage in the west and north side of Brownwood was caused after a truck pulling a trailer load of trees snagged a power line in the eastbound lane of High Mesa Drive Tuesday night, according to Brownwood Police.

Oncor officials confirmed that over 1100 customers were left without power for 1 hour and 7 minutes.

According to Brownwood Police accident reports, at 8:59 PM Tuesday, the vehicle was transporting trees along High Mesa Drive when the accident occurred.  The trees appeared to be over the height requirement, causing the trees in the front of the trailer to snag power lines which crossed over the roadway, in turn causing line fuses to blow resulting in the power outage.

Widespread outages affected areas along High Mesa around the Ron Jackson Juvenile Correction Center, Bluffview Drive, and even into the downtown area.  Police and fire officials helped direct traffic at major intersections around town while signal lights were disabled during the power outage.

Oncor workers responded and restored electricity at 10:06 PM.

Neither the truck nor the trailer was damaged as a result of the accident, the report states.
