Tim Lee, Executive Director of The Retired Teachers Association, made a presentation in Brownwood on Tuesday, June 19th, in the Brownwood Coliseum speaking to both active and retired school personnel on ways the TRTA and school personnel can work together to help save their current retirement plan – Defined Benefit – which was established in the 1936 Constitution.
The alternative plan – Defined Contribution – is being promoted by individuals representing the financial industry and does not provide beneficiary coverage and has no insurance, according to organizers of the event.
Currently there are over 312,000 educational retirees or their beneficiaries in Texas that contribute about 7.2 billion dollars into our state economy.
Organizers state that Tim is a dynamic speaker who works for all retirees – whether or not they are members of TRTA. By working together TRTA believes the Defined Benefit retirement plan can and will be saved for present and future educators.
The event was co-sponsored by District XV TRTA and the Early Chamber of Commerce. To view a video from the event, click here.
