halloween2012Brown County Sheriff’s Office would like to help area residents have a safe and fun Halloween.  BCSO Captain Vance Hill offered the following tips for those taking part in trick or treating and other outdoor Halloween activities.

  • Choose bright colored costumes and carry a flashlight or glow stick. Reflective tape works well for high visibility.
  • Trick or Treat in neighborhoods that are well lit, and in areas you are familiar with.
  • It is best to stay in groups.
  • Have an adult with the younger kids and walk them to the door.
  • Don’t allow children to enter a home without your supervision.
  • Don’t allow children to approach vehicles without your supervision.
  • Teach your children to scream “NO!” if someone tries to take them somewhere or attempt to offer them something other than a treat.

“It is also good to teach your child how to dial 911 in case of an emergency,” said Hill.  “Have fun but be safe.”
