Contractors for the Texas Department of Transportation are scheduled to perform seal coat maintenance operations on two roadways in the Brownwood area Friday and Saturday, July 8-9.
On Friday, crews are scheduled to seal coat Farm to Market 3254 from just west of the Ron Jackson State Juvenile Correctional Complex to the end of state maintenance near the BNSF railroad tracks.
Beginning Friday and continuing into Saturday, crews are scheduled to seal coat a portion of State Highway 279 in the Lake Brownwood area from south of FM 1849, north to FM 1850.
At both locations, traffic will be reduced to one lane with flaggers and pilot car operations in place while the maintenance work is underway. Motorists should anticipate delays at these times. Drivers are encouraged to reduce speeds and be on the lookout for construction personnel in the area. The seal coating operation is a standard roadway maintenance procedure that consists of placing a layer of oil on top of the existing pavement surface, followed by a layer of gravel. The gravel is then rolled into place with heavy machinery to create a new driving surface. This process helps to prolong the life of the roadway by filling in any existing cracks in the pavement.
TxDOT’s Brownwood District includes Brown, Coleman, Comanche, Eastland, Lampasas, McCulloch, Mills, San Saba and Stephens counties.
